Introduction
The safety of all Cahoots Workshop users is paramount. This policy outlines essential procedures to follow in the event of an emergency.
Serious injury
- In the event of a serious or life threatening injury, dial 111 and request an ambulance
- Go with the injured party to hospital if required and requested
- When safe to do so, call the workshop emergency contact (available on our website and posted on the workshop wall) and provide details of what happened
- Report all injuries, no matter how minor, and any near-misses to Cahoots staff as soon as safely possible. Reporting procedures are available on our website and posted on the workshop wall
Fire
- In the event of fire, evacuation is the primary concern
- Yell “FIRE” several times as loudly as you can
- Make your way to the workshop exits quickly and calmly, assisting others as it is safe to do so
- If safe to do so, activate the fire alarm which is located to the right of the roller door
- If you are confident to do so, use the fire extinguishers located by the internal workshop door, and to the right of the roller door
- The assembly point is on Hopper Street, at the north side of the entrance to the Hopper Home carpark.
Earthquake
- In the event of an earthquake, drop, cover and hold
- If you are very close to a sturdy table or bench (only a few steps), take cover under it
- Once the shaking has stopped, decide if the building is visibly damaged
- If the building is visibly damaged, evacuate
- If the building is NOT visible damaged, shelter in place until instructed to leave
- Note that the Hopper Home building (which Cahoots Workshop is located in) was assessed in 2017 as 60% of New Building Standard and is not considered earthquake prone
